Pelikan Fountain Pen - M200 Old Style Tortoise Brown Striped (Pre 1997). We recently took this pen in trade from one of our customers towards a watch. Here are the details of this fine Pelikan writing instrument. Vintage Pre 1997 Pelikan M200 - Striped Brown Tortoise barrel. Measures 5.75 inches/14.6cm (open-cap on end of barrel and fountain pen nib exposed) - Measures 5 inches closed (cap on pen).

Pre-97 M200'derby' cap top with etched 2 chick logo (2 chicks: This logo indicates its production predates 2003). Double Cap Bands wider band marked Pelikan Germany (A marking of Germany is post-unification and would date to after 1992). Trim ring at the piston knob.

Gold Nib is stamped,'Pelikan 14C 585 B' and best guess is that it is stainless steel gold plated nib. The model M200 was introduced in 1985. The size of the fountain pen is identical to the M400 which was manufactured since 1982.

A redesign took place from 1st of September 1997, so the models prior to the change in 1997 are referred as'Old Style'. After 9/1997, the crown cap was changed and a trim ring was added to the filling knob.

The M200 pens have a steel nib while model M250 pens have a gold nib. There´s a number of identical fountain pens found in both M200 and M250 versions, only distinguished by the nib material.
